Convert 3.4

Convert is an application designed to convert units on the 3COM Pilot. Right now it can convert units in acceleration, angle, area, computer, flow, force, length, mass, power, pressure, speed, temperature, torque, viscosity, volume, and dry volume. Because of all the time I have put into this, I am now offerring this program as "pay what you can" ware. Please send whatever you can (money, postcard, email) to the address at the bottom of this page. If you don't, that is OK also. This program is fully functional no matter what you do.

Requirements

Convert is designed to run on PalmOS 2.0 and later. It will not run on PalmOS 1.0. I also have had reports that it runs fine on the Palm V. Please let me know!

Installation

Unzip the file named Convert.zip(Windows) or uncompress the Convert.sit file (Mac). This will leave you with two files, this read me and the Convert.prc application. Before you install Convert, delete any older versions you might have on your Pilot. Use the Pilot Install tool to install the Convert.prc file. Perform a HotSync and the program will be on your Pilot.

Directions

When you launch the application you will see a screen with two lines and two lists at the top. Use the popup list at the upper right hand of the screen to select between the different categories. When you select a category the lists will be updated with the different units you can covert for that category. Enter your known value on the upper text line. Then select the known unit from the left hand list. Finally, select the units you would like to convert to from the right hand list. Your answer will be displayed on the bottom line. Added in this version is the ability to create your own conversion factors. To do this, tap on the User button at the bottom of the screen. That will bring up a window with three buttons: Done, New, and Delete. To create your conversion, tap on New. Enter the units and conversion factors on the appropriate lines. When finished, tap on the OK button. This will bring you back to where you can see all of the conversions you have created. If at any time you need to edit a conversion, just come back to this window and tap on the conversion. Now, tap on the Done button. To display your conversions in the main window, tap on the upper right hand popup list and select "user" at the very bottom. Your conversion units should now be displayed.

Note: Tapping on the right list in this view will do nothing! You must tap on the conversion unit in the left list!! Again, this is only when you have "user" selected as the category.

I have also added a Clear button for those users who would like to clear all fields.

If you have any questions, comments, or bugs to report, please email me at brettnkt@jps.net. You can also go to my web site at www.jps.net/brettnkt/pilot.html. I have tried to make this program as robust as possible, but remember I can't accept responsibility for any problems it could cause with your Pilot. I have also tried to make it as accurate as possible, but again, I can't accept responsibility for anything that might happen due to inaccurracy.
